Welcome to the live feed of updates from Mayo on the effect of Storm Amy in the county.

Here, we'll keep you informed of all the happenings within County Mayo due to the Status Yellow Weather Warning, as well as the Status Red Warning for the coast.

5:27 PM: HELP ON THE WAY

Mayo County Council announce that a contractor is on their way to remove the fallen trees on the R312.

5:23 PM: MULTIPLE TREES TOPPLED 

Storm Amy takes effect as multiple trees toppled around county.

There have been numerous incidents of the Status Orange Weather Warning causing chaos across the county.

5:10 PM: ROAD FLOODED IN BALLINROBE

A tree has fallen on the Mill Street Carpark in Westport.

4:52 PM: DECISION ON MAYO LGFA FIXTURES

After Mayo GAA decided to cancel all matches for the weekend due to Storm Amy and its aftermath, all eyes turned on the LGFA as the junior and intermediate county championship finals are originally due to take place in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park this Saturday.

4:46 PM: Irish Rail issue update as Mayo train delayed by Storm Amy

The heavy-hitting impact of Storm Amy on Mayo has left a big mark on roads around the county, with fallen trees, heavy debris, and localised flooding some of the many issues felt by people from east to west and north to south.

The train network, like many other facets of society in the county, has suffered from the high winds across the county in recent hours.

A report has come in by Irish Rail about delays.

4:29 PM: VIDEO SHOWS STORM AMY IN ERRIS

4:09 PM: GAA PITCH UNDER WATER

Clonbur GAA pitch, just 6km from Cong, is under water due to heavy rainfall as a result of Storm Amy.

3:59 PM: VIDEO OF TRUCK BLOWN OFF ROAD

As the wind caused by Storm Amy is picking up, traffic in Mayo gets more dangerous.

A truck was blown off the road outside Bellacorick.

3:40 PM: WERE MAYO GAA RIGHT TO CALL OFF MATCHES? 

The decision by Mayo GAA to cancel all matches for the upcoming weekend due to health and safety concerns was made Friday lunchtime.

There might be differing views on that by some, as Storm Amy will have well passed by tomorrow.

3:22 PM: THOUSANDS OF POWER OUTAGES REPORTED

ESB are reporting outages across the whole county as the wind due to Storm Amy intensifies.

Basically all areas across Mayo are affected, with outages affecting customers in Louisburgh, Achill, Ballyhaunis, Ardnaree, Belmullet, Claremorris, Crossmolina and other places.

2:51 PM: DRIVERS FACING TOUGH CONDITIONS

The main Lahardane-Crossmolina road flooded already earlier today. Photo sent in to us.

It's a difficult day out there for drivers.

2:41 PM: VIDEO OF TREES FALLING ON ROAD

2:10 PM: ROAD AT GLENHEST CLOSED DUE TO FLOODING

The Glenisland road between Bellacorrick and Castlebar is closed due to flooding at Glenhest.
Please take an alternative route if you must travel. The council have been informed and further updates will follow.
As the storm continues into this evening people are being advised to stay safe by staying at home if possible.

1:30 PM: BREAKING: DECISION MADE ON GAA MATCHES

There has been speculation across the day as to whether or not the ties would go ahead.

Mayo GAA have moved swiftly and have taken action to ensure players and supporters know soon enough.

1:13 PM: EMERGENCY SERVICES AT SCENE OF COLLISION

A section of the route has been closed, with motorists advised to take alternative routes.

An Garda Síochána in Mayo are attending the scene of a single-vehicle collision.

12:49 PM: RAIN MAY CLEAR BUT WIND WILL INCREASE

12:40 PM: WILL MAYO GAA CLUB MATCHES GO AHEAD?

A big soccer match and a flight have already been cancelled as Mayo gets to grips with the conditions.

The county is one of those being worst impacted by the Status Yellow and Orange warnings, and the sporting sphere is also being impacted by the wind and rain. So far, one soccer fixture has fallen by the wayside.

It's a big weekend ahead as there are semi-finals and relegation battles on across the county.

12:28 PM: WIND GROWING IN FORCE

12:22 PM: WHERE ARE POWER OUTAGES IN MAYO?

The ESB warns: High windsare expected to cause damage to electricity infrastructure, particularly in counties like Mayo, which are under Met Éireann’s Status Orange wind warning.

A statement reads: "Stay Safe, Stay Clear of fallen electricity wires."

Report any damage to the network by calling 1800 372 999.

11:56 AM: KNOCK AIRPORT IMPACTED

Ireland West Airport schedule impacted by conditions: The airport has seen its outbound flights suffer due to the storm with Met Éireann issuing warnings.

11:31 AM: STAY VIGILANT IN COASTAL AREAS 

Water Safety Ireland urges: “Storm Amy will bring very challenging and dangerous conditions to coastal and inland areas. We are asking everyone to be extra vigilant."

11:20 AM: EMERGENCY SERVICES MAY BE DELAYED

The HSE has sent out a warning:

10:55 AM: STAY AWAY FROM COASTAL AREAS

The forecasted winds have the capacity to bring severe, destructive and damaging gusts, be aware of the dangers of fallen trees and power lines.

High seas; the public are advised to stay away from coastal areas during this period.

The Irish Coast Guard are appealing to people to “Stay Back, Stay High, Stay Dry”. There is a potential for wave overtopping and tidal flooding in low-lying, exposed Atlantic coastal areas.

Mayo County Council point out: Storm Amy may also bring localised heavy showers, which in turn may lead to localised surface flooding, which may prevail into Saturday.

The county is suffering from heavy rainfall after Met Éireann issued weather warnings for the region.

10 AM: TRAVEL ADVICE

Weather Warnings for Mayo are now in place as Storm Amy approaches, with a Status Orange Wind Warning in effect from 2pm later today until 10pm tonight (October 3rd).

Mayo County Council says: "The public are advised in those orange areas, to limit travel to essential journeys and shelter in place as much as possible.

Essential services operators will continue to operate subject to advice from Met Éireann on prevailing local conditions.
If travel is necessary, take additional care when driving and lookout for pedestrians and cyclists."

6 PM: MAYO SOCCER FEELS FORCE OF STORM AMY

5 PM: MAYO SCHOOL ANNOUNCES CLOSURE

One West Mayo school has announced it is to close tomorrow due to Storm Amy. 

Choláiste Pobail Acla will close tomorrow "in the interest of student health and safety", Jason Ó Mongáin, Príomhoide Choláiste Pobail Acla, posted online. 

Other schools in Mayo are actively monitoring the situation and following the guidance of the Be Winter Ready protocols, which state:

"The decision to close a school or Early Learning Centre rests with the setting’s management authority taking into consideration the full guidance and direction available from the principal response agencies, especially An Garda Síochána. Any decision to close is taken in the interest of child safety, having assessed the local risks and having consulted, as appropriate, with school transport operators.

Some of the issues that settings take into account include conditions in the setting itself, the capacity of the setting to ensure the health and safety of children and students, ability of parents, students, staff and school transport services to safely negotiate local road conditions to reach the setting and guidance and direction from the principal response agencies."

Separately, Local Link Mayo have warned users that "there may be disruptions to services tomorrow due to the Orange Weather that comes into effect tonight."
