Storm Amy takes effect as multiple trees toppled around county

Storm Amy has brought plenty of fallen trees in Mayo, particularly in Ballina

Chaos is ensuing around Mayo today (Friday, October 3) as Storm Amy takes full effect, with multiple towns, villages, and parishes feeling the force of turbulent winds coupled with the heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours.

From debris around the county to flooding in certain spots, people are taking shelter and keeping an eye on the damage unfolding.

Sometimes, the gusts are taking their toll on nature. In Ballina, in fact, there are multiple reports of trees blocking a quartet of roads in North Mayo.

The four roads are the R294 in Behy, the N26 Ballina-Foxford Road (near Hollister), the R310 at Barnfield, and the R314 at Rathoreen.

Those travelling home using those routes are asked to seek alternative ways if possible.
