With the Mayo inter-county footballers on a break from championship action, this weekend provided the chance for the Mayo club GAA leagues to take centre stage. As always, the fare didn’t disappoint.

Even at this early stage, some of the narratives are already taking place. A number of sides have two wins from two and are looking to either promotion or silverware, while others are already fighting to avoid the ignominy of propping up the league table. Here, we’ve tried to give a sample of what’s been going on around the grounds.

Crossmolina Deel Rovers 3-15 Garrymore 1-9

A spellbinding Crossmolina second half saw them blow away Garrymore and make it two wins from two. A Caolan Crowe goal, coupled with a Trevor Nally two-pointer, left Garrymore within arms’ length of the visiting Crossmolina contingent midway through.

However, Crossmolina were unstoppable once the ball was thrown in for the second half. Two goals in rapid-fire fashion were deadly for the hosts and condemned them to a twelve-point defeat in the end.

DIVISION 2B

The Neale 1-19 Killala 2-8

The Neale produced a fine performance as they grew into this one, and in the end recorded a fine victory over Killala in Cong.

Killala looked like they were the better side in the opening exchanges, however turning that ascendancy on the pitch into one on the scoreboard was proving difficult.

The Neale, however, displayed composure and efficiency, and would have been further ahead had it not been for a penalty for Killala to open their scoring.

The sense of jeopardy was qualmed when The Neale managed a trio of two-pointers to put the tie beyond the reach of the visitors.

Crossmolina was the venue for a strong display from Northern Gaels, as they produced a powerful second half to dispatch of hosts Crossmolina on Sunday.

The clash was nip-and-tuck in the first half. However, Cathal Boland and Craig McCormick were to the fore as the game developed, netting three pointers to ensure that Northern Gales built on their opening day win over Ballycastle.
