We want to find Mayo’s Greatest Supporter.

In the quietness we dream. In the chaos we imagine. In every ticking of the clock, we believe.

Those fortunate enough to have an enduring passion for the Green above the Red never stop chasing moments of sporting immortality.

The journey, the stories, the people, the passion – chasing the Mayo dream brings so many emotions to the fore.

Over the decades, Mayo supporters have traveled near and far to roar on the Green and Red, and now The Mayo News wants to find Mayo’s Greatest Supporter.

We want to hear of the moments, the sacrifices, the mad and funny stories that set this follower apart. Of course, the search isn't bothered by borders – Mayo’s Greatest Supporter may be found outside the county bounds. The love of the jersey and the desire to chase the dream is a blessing enjoyed by many all across the world.

Head of Sport at The Mayo News, Michael Gallagher is delighted to set this search in motion. “We spend every day of the year marveling at the resilience and the passion of the Mayo supporter, and we want to highlight them and give them the credit they deserve.

“We all know people who go above and beyond for the Green and Red. We all know people who never stop believing no matter what the circumstances, and now we want our readers to nominate the people they think should be honoured with the accolade of Mayo’s Greatest Supporter.

“We’re very excited to be joined in this quest by our friends in Théa Pharma, a company embedded in the community and one where the passion for excellence never wanes. We look forward to working with Théa’s Country Manager Diarmuid Gavin and his team over the coming weeks as the excitement builds and we get ready to name Mayo’s Greatest Supporter.”

Mr Gavin is also very excited about the project. “In Théa, we’re very passionate about what we do and that passion spills over into our involvement in the community. We’re an ophthalmology company and the search for Mayo’s Greatest Supporter appealed to us straight away.

We do dry-eye products and we’ve all had that journey – we’ve all come from Croke Park and not a dry eye in the house.

“I’m a passionate Mayo supporter. I grew up in Tourmakeady and played a lot of football there over the years. I’m now involved with Castlebar Mitchels where my sons have played. The GAA in Mayo is part of what we are. It’s in our hearts, it’s in our blood, it’s in our spirit, it’s who we are.

“I know we’ve had hard days along the way, but being a passionate Mayo supporter brings us together. I have family all around Ireland and we often gather in Dublin before Mayo games in Croke Park and reminisce about the days we spent kicking football in Tournmakeady.

“Being a Mayo supporter is a blessing.”

Théa Pharma is a privately family-owned business dedicated to ophthalmology with over 150 years of heritage based in Clermont Ferrand in the Auvergne region of France.

The company is owned by the Chibret family, who have played a major role in the history of ophthalmology and pharmaceuticals in France, with a legacy spanning 150 Years. Their influence began in the 19th century and continues today through Laboratoires Théa, a leader in preservative-free eye care solutions.
