Claremorris 2-14 Balla 1-14

A late Cathal Joyce goal for Claremorris proved crucial as the hosts recorded a three-point win over Balla after a dramatic conclusion to the tie.

The visitors put in a fine display at the turn of the half, having found themselves six points down as they headed to the changing rooms at the interval. However, they looked to have turned the tide with only two minutes left to play when Gary McHale found the target with a free.

Claremorris refused to take it lying down, and the tension ratcheted up another notch when Conor McGuinness found a leveller. In the heat of battle, Joyce stood tall and scored again to secure the victory in style.

Louisburgh 0-13 The Neale 0-18

The Neale made the most of their trek to Louisburgh as they recorded a five-point win on the road on Saturday evening.

With a stiff breeze on their backs in Act One, the visitors made the advantage count and got four points on the spin before Louisburgh were able to get on the scoreboard. The Neale kept plugging away, and come half-time held a six-point advantage with the odious task of playing into the wind.

Hosts Louisburgh upped the ante after the resumption, and at one stage, only a goal separated the teams in the second half. However, The Neale kept their distance, landing a few blows the other way, and in the end left with a five-point victory and the points on the board.

Westport 4-14 Swinford 3-14

In a rip-roaring game of attacking football, Westport did just enough to see off a late Swinford rally and make it out with the win.

Westport burst out of the gates, scoring 1-6 in the opening ten minutes, while Swinford managed just a solitary point in response.

However, Swinford showed grit, first narrowing the gap with a point before blasting home a quick free to the Westport net. A flurry of three unanswered points soon leveled the contest, only for Westport’s powerful full forward, Oisín Moran, to win and expertly convert a penalty.

The visitors responded with a point to reduce the deficit to two, but Westport reasserted dominance with six consecutive scores.

Swinford opened the second half with a free, igniting hope of a resurgence, but their challenge was dealt a blow when Westport struck for a second goal. Undeterred, Swinford responded with a four-point streak before netting again to reduce the deficit to four.

Just as Swinford looked poised for a final surge, Westport wrestled back control with two quick points and another goal from Walsh, restoring their advantage to nine.

Davitts 1-13 Hollymount-Carramore 1-7

A fine final quarter for hosts Davitts paved the way to a seven-point victory over Hollymount Carramore on Sunday.

It was a game where it looked like Holly-Carra were going to be heading for the exit gates with the win in minute 42. However, Davitts were able to reel off ten points in a row to entirely swing the pendulum and secure a rousing victory.

The home team led 1-1 to nothing after seven minutes against the breeze. The men in white responded well, with five on the spin.

Stephen Nyland’s pair of scores inched Davitts ahead, however, Holly-Carra swung over to level at half-time.

A three-pointer from the away side, followed by a white flag, extended the lead to three going down the home stretch, but Davitts found their second wind to wrap up the win.
