MAYO SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION 1A
Ballinrobe 0-8
Breaffy 0-11
In Ballinrobe
WHAT a way to start their league campaign. After beating defending county senior champion Ballina and following up with a win over Ardnaree, Breaffy bested Ballinrobe last night.
It definitely wasn't an evening for free-flowing football, especially in the second half as rain pelted down, but Breaffy handled the conditions better and deservedly bagged the win.
Sean Deane's men might have kicked seven wides in the first half and had two goal chances denied by Luke Jennings, but the guests still managed to lead 0-7 to 0-5 at the interval.
Ballinrobe were finding it hard to create space and scoring opportunities. If it weren't for Conor O'Brien's sharpshooting skills, Breaffy would have won by a much higher margin. O'Brien scored five points in total including a magnificent two-pointer from open play.
The danger men for Breaffy were Pierce Deane who ended up with four points to his name, Tommy O'Reilly and Paul McDermott. The trio was at the heart of the guests’ most dangerous attacks.
After three successive losses, Ballinrobe have had a poor start to the league, but the intermediate hopefuls have had tough fixtures against Knockmore, Ballina and Breaffy, three top senior sides.
