Sandra, her horse Skye and dog Turnip begin third leg of Wild Atlantic Way fundraising journey from Mayo

A fundraising horseback journey along the Wild Atlantic Way has reached Mayo, with Sandra setting off from Westport this week (Tuesday, September 1) on the third leg of an ambitious journey in aid of an educational programme for young teenagers.

Sandra, accompanied by her horse Skye and dog Turnip, began the latest stage of the fundraising ride in Westport, with the journey aiming to raise awareness and support for a GoFundMe campaign supporting a programme at the Hairy Henry Care Farm in West Cork.

The fundraising campaign began in 2024, when Sandra and Skye set out along the Wild Atlantic Way. In just over two weeks, they travelled as far as Donegal town.

The journey continued in 2025, when the pair picked up the route in Donegal and travelled onwards to Westport.

Now, in 2026, Sandra has begun the third leg of the adventure, with the next destination being Clifden before the journey continues towards Galway city.

The ride is being used to highlight the fundraising campaign, which aims to support an educational programme designed for young teenagers at the Hairy Henry Care Farm.

Sandra said she was delighted with the start to this year’s journey in Westport and is hoping the fundraising ride will help bring greater attention to the initiative.

The journey combines a love of horses, travel and community with a fundraising effort aimed at creating opportunities for young people through the care farm programme.

Supporters can contribute to the campaign through the Hairy Henry Care Farm educational programme for young teens GoFundMe, with donations helping to support the development of the initiative in West Cork.

Sandra is continuing the journey with Skye and Turnip as she makes her way towards Clifden and, ultimately, Galway city.
