Ballinrobe Town have appointed Chris McGauley as their new manager. The Dubliner, who played as a right-back and centre-back for Inchicore Athletic and St Mark’s Tallaght has been living in Mayo for 21 years. He holds a UEFA “C” license and has applied for his “B” license.

He is also manager of the Mayo U-18 team, who recently enjoyed an impressive win over the Galway league in Umbro Park.

McGauley’s immediate objectives are to consolidate Ballinrobe Town’s position in the Mayo Super League and to develop many of the club’s young players and integrate them into the first team. Ballinrobe finished eighth in the table this season past, with fourteen points – two more than Crossmolina who were relegated. They had to wait until the final day of the season to ensure their safety.

The club made a meteoric rise through the divisions in recent years after re-entering a junior team in 2021, winning consecutive promotions to reach the top tier of Mayo football.

The South Mayo side are without the services of JP O’Gorman, who has officially retired, but McGauley may persuade him to wait another year.
