The U-18 Mayo League team kicked off their interleague campaign with a comprehensive win on Sunday afternoon as they clinically dispatched neighbours Galway in a well-deserved victory.
Both teams started cautiously with neither defence giving up many clear-cut chances, with the bulk of the play in the middle of the park.
Tome side who broke the deadlock thanks to Conor Brett, who finished well after latching on to a defence-splitting pass from Jack Walsh.
Galway had a lot of possession but weren’t creating any meaningful chances and went further behind on thirty-six minutes when Westport’s Killian Conway picked up the ball and lashed it into the top corner, giving the Galway keeper absolutely no chance.
In the second half, Galway came out on the front foot and controlled the ball for large periods, but again were struggling to create good chances as the Mayo backline stood firm, with Tom McGeough leading by example.
In the dying seconds of normal time, substitute Fionn McLaughlin added a third with a pinpoint strike from range to put the gloss on an impressive performance from the Mayo side.
