Mayo man shines in winning first appearance on Countdown

Ethan McNea, from Achill, appeared on the Channel Four show on Wednesday, February 4.

Mayo man Ethan McNea showed off his problem-solving skills on British television screens yesterday (Wednesday, March 4) to great effect when he impressed on his appearance on popular TV show 'Countdown'.

The Achill native impressed in his race against the clock to pit his wits against vowels, consonants, and numbers, as well as his opponent.

Ethan impressed host Colin Murray, Rachel Riley on numbers and letters, Susie Dent, and guest Neil Delamere in the dictionary corner.

The primary school teacher had enough time to squeeze in anecdotes about his home island:
