Westport United ended a week of woe off the field by dismantling an injury-hit Ballinrobe team on Saturday evening.
Ballinrobe had not been guaranteed their Super League status going into the final game. But thanks to other results going their way, the South Mayo men finished eighth in the table despite being hit for nine by a goal-hungry Westport United.
Westport United - who lost their manager to a twelve-month ban earlier in the week - started the game at a pace the home side struggled to live with throughout and never took their foot off the accelerator.
The floodgates opened on nine minutes thanks to a brilliant long-range effort from Kevin Ketterick. Darren Browne added a second shortly after that before Dan O’Malley got the away side's third. Dylan O’Malley, who Ballinrobe struggled to contain all game, set up Kevin Ketterick for Westport’s fourth at the stroke of half-time.
It was more of the same after the break as Dylan O’Malley got his name on the score sheet to make it 5-0. Ballinrobe, to their credit, never stopped trying to attack but Westport just had too much firepower for them as they added another four before full-time. Kevin Ketterick completed his hat-trick and sub' Dylan Duane added two off the bench before Dan O’Malley scored his second with nine minutes to play.
