Westport LGFA have called for sanctions to be imposed in the wake of an alleged incident of racism towards a club member during a game in the 2025 Connacht Club Championship.

On November 2, the Mayo champions lost out to reigning Galway, Connacht, and All-Ireland Champions Kilkerrin-Clonberne.

Since then, the player and witnesses to the alleged racial abuse attended a Connacht LGFA Complaints, Objections, Disciplinary and Appeals (CODA) hearing and later an appeal on Tuesday, February 24.

The club has expressed regret that their members have had to revisit what was already "a very difficult and upsetting experience."

"We believe that conduct of this nature must be treated with the utmost seriousness and that any sanctions imposed should properly reflect the gravity of such behaviour," a statement from Westport LGFA read.
"We stand firmly behind any individual who is subjected to abuse and remain committed to fostering a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for players, officials, volunteers and supporters alike.
"We are proud of our member for having the courage to raise this issue through the appropriate channels and to participate in the disciplinary process.
"Taking a stand against discrimination helps uphold the standards and values that are central to our club."
The Mayo News has contacted the LGFA and Connacht LGFA for comment on the issue and the disciplinary procedure
