The NCF Cultural Co-op in Ballina will host a Palestine solidarity coffee morning this Saturday as part of the Apartheid Free Zone initiative

A Ballina-based arts cooperative will host a coffee morning this Saturday to mark its participation in a national solidarity initiative supporting Palestinian rights.

The NCF Cultural Cooperative, located in Ballina, has announced that it has joined the Apartheid Free Zone initiative organised by the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC).

To mark the commitment, the cooperative will host a Palestine solidarity coffee morning on Saturday, March 7, bringing together members of the organisation and local IPSC supporters for a morning of discussion and community engagement.

The event will take place at the NCF Community Art Space on Pearse Street in Ballina from 10.30am until lunchtime and is open to members of the public.

As part of the Apartheid Free Zone initiative, participating groups commit to supporting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which calls for the boycott of Israeli products and institutions linked to alleged human rights abuses, and to publicly express solidarity with Palestinian rights.

Organisers say the coffee morning will provide an opportunity for people to learn more about both the cooperative and the wider Apartheid Free Zone campaign, which has seen more than 370 Irish businesses, clubs, community groups and local councils sign up across the country.

So far, 11 organisations in County Mayo have joined the initiative.

Tea and coffee will be provided free of charge at the event, while donations will be welcomed in support of Irish water projects in Gaza.

The organisers said the gathering aims to create a welcoming space for conversation and community building, with both members and non-members invited to attend.
