Downpatrick Head new facilities were welcomed as a boost for visitors to one of Mayo’s best-known locations

Two new eco toilets have been installed at the car park at Downpatrick Head, providing a welcome addition for visitors to the popular north Mayo tourist attraction.

The new facilities have been welcomed by local councillor Michael Loftus, who said they would enhance the visitor experience at one of the county’s most spectacular destinations.

“Great to see two new Eco Toilets now installed at Downpatrick Head Car Park,” Cllr Loftus said.

“A welcome addition that will enhance the visitor experience at one of Mayo’s most spectacular destinations.”

Downpatrick Head, located close to Ballycastle, attracts visitors throughout the year to experience its dramatic Atlantic coastline and iconic sea stack, known as Dún Briste.

The installation of the new facilities comes as visitor numbers to Mayo’s major attractions continue to create demand for appropriate infrastructure and amenities.

The eco toilets are expected to provide an important additional facility for visitors, particularly during busy periods and the summer tourism season.

The investment represents a further improvement to visitor amenities at Downpatrick Head and supports ongoing efforts to ensure that the area can cater for tourists while protecting its unique natural environment.

The attraction forms part of Mayo’s Wild Atlantic Way offering and remains one of the county’s most recognisable coastal landmarks.
