Mayo mum celebrated at national Mum of the Year awards

Caitlín Kirrane has been recognised among 10 nominees at the 2026 Woman’s Way and Beko Mum of the Year Awards
A Castlebar woman has been celebrated at the 2026 Woman’s Way and Beko Mum of the Year Awards, recognising mothers across Ireland for their contributions to their families and communities.
Caitlín Kirrane, a mother of four, was among 10 nominees honoured at a special awards lunch at 25 Fitzwilliam Place in Dublin. Nominated in June, she has built a loyal social media following by sharing an honest and relatable account of family life, including the challenges of motherhood, health issues, living in a mobile home and documenting her family’s dream self-build project.
Caitlín first began documenting her family’s life while living in Australia with her husband and their two children. Finding life as a young mother away from friends and family lonely at times, she turned to YouTube to share their experiences with loved ones back home.
After returning to Ireland, she continued creating content and expanded to Instagram and TikTok, where she has spoken openly about her recent ADHD diagnosis and the realities of managing a busy family life while navigating the challenges of building a home.
Her content has resonated with followers who appreciate her openness about the ups and downs of parenting, family life and personal challenges.
The awards’ overview
Now in their 23rd year, the Woman’s Way and Beko Mum of the Year Awards celebrate mothers whose efforts make a difference to their families, communities and wider society.
The overall 2026 Mum of the Year award went to Tipperary woman Carol Hyland, who was recognised for her ongoing work with marginalised young people and her efforts to champion those whose voices are too often unheard.
Leanne Flynn received the Special Recognition Award in acknowledgement of her extraordinary resilience and courage following a violent knife crime incident in Dublin city centre.
Judie Lopes was named Mum of the Year Champion for 2026. She and her family came into the public spotlight when Ireland adopted her husband’s home nation of Cape Verde and her son, Roberto ‘Pico’ Lopes, proudly represented the country at this year’s World Cup.
Entrepreneur Lisa McGowan, founder of Lisa’s Lust List, received the Celebrity Mum of the Year award.
Event host and judging panel chair Norah Casey said the awards highlighted the remarkable stories behind everyday motherhood.
“Every year, these awards remind us just how extraordinary ordinary mothers can be,” she said. “Behind every nomination is a story of love, sacrifice, resilience and determination, often from women who never seek the spotlight or recognition.”
Beko Ireland Marketing Manager Shane O’Connor said the company was proud to support the awards for the 11th year. He praised the strength and courage shown by this year’s nominees and described the event as a celebration of mothers everywhere.
Further details on the awards and this year’s nominees are available in the latest issue of Woman’s Way magazine.
