Mayo rail services disrupted following Ballyhaunis collision

Replacement buses will operate as Westport-Athlone as the line remains closed
Irish Rail services on the Dublin-Mayo route are facing significant disruption this morning following a serious collision involving a train and a vehicle near Ballyhaunis on Thursday night.
Irish Rail has confirmed that the line between Westport and Athlone remains closed until further notice as railway personnel continue to deal with the aftermath of the incident.
Replacement bus transfers will operate from Westport to Athlone this morning to assist passengers affected by the disruption.
Passengers travelling from Ballina will also face changes to their journey, with services operating as far as Manulla and then continuing to Claremorris. From there, an onward bus transfer will operate to Athlone.
Irish Rail has also warned that knock-on delays are expected on services operating on the Galway route.
The disruption follows a collision that occurred shortly before 9pm when the 6.15pm Heuston to Westport service collided with a vehicle at a user-operated level crossing at Kiltybo, Ballyhaunis.
Emergency services and railway personnel attended the scene, with passengers on board the train subsequently being assisted from the area.
Irish Rail said the line closure would remain in place until further notice and advised passengers to check for updates before travelling.
Further updates on services are expected as the situation develops.
