The Sam Maguire Cup will make a special visit to the capital next Friday, September 18, when Mayo All-Ireland winner Jack Carney will bring the famous trophy to St Patrick’s Church in Corduff, Dublin 15.

Carney, who plays his club football with Kilmeena and works as a primary school teacher in the Dublin area, is expected to visit the church with the Sam Maguire Cup, giving members of the local community an opportunity to see the historic trophy up close. There is a strong local connection to the visit, with Fr John Regan, a native of Kilmeena, serving as parish priest in the area of Dublin.

It is understood that the Mayo midfielder will also be joined by some of his All-Ireland winning teammates for what promises to be a memorable occasion in the capital. Mayo secured their long-awaited All-Ireland Senior Football Championship title on July 26, when Andy Moran’s side defeated Kerry in a historic final, ending a 75-year wait for the Sam Maguire.

The victory sparked huge celebrations across Mayo, with the trophy travelling throughout the county and visiting numerous towns, GAA clubs and schools. The famous trophy has also made special appearances at locations including Mayo University Hospital and Knock Basilica.

The trophy will be present at the 9.05am Mass in St Patrick’s Church, Corduff, on Friday, September 18, providing a special opportunity for Mayo supporters living in Dublin to celebrate the county’s historic success. Everyone is welcome while there will also be refreshments after Mass.
