Westport workwear company Portwest has been shortlisted for the prestigious Company of the Year Award at the 2026 Business & Finance Awards, recognising its contribution to Irish business and its continued development in international markets.

The Mayo company is among 13 organisations shortlisted for the award, which recognises outstanding business performance, sustained growth, innovation, leadership and excellence.

The shortlist was announced on Wednesday, October 28, ahead of the awards ceremony at the Convention Centre Dublin on Thursday, December 10.

Now in its 52nd year, the Business & Finance Awards, held in association with KPMG, are Ireland’s longest-running business awards programme.

Portwest will compete alongside businesses including Applegreen, DCC Energy, FBD Insurance, Glanbia, Greencore Group, Kerry Group and Workhuman for the Company of the Year title.

The awards ceremony is expected to welcome more than 1,000 business, political, civic and social leaders from Ireland and abroad. The recognition provides a boost for Mayo’s business community.

Two prominent Irish figures will also be honoured at the event. Internationally renowned humanitarian campaigner Sir Bob Geldof will receive the Sutherland Leadership Award, while Dublin-born Ambassador Samantha Power, former United States Ambassador to the United Nations and former administrator of the US Agency for International Development, will receive the TK Whitaker Award for Outstanding Contribution to Ireland and Public Life.

Ian Hyland, President and Publisher of Business & Finance, said this year’s increased number of entries reflected the strength and confidence of Ireland’s business community.

Ryan McCarthy, Managing Partner at KPMG Ireland, said this year’s awards highlighted the importance of innovation and adaptability as businesses respond to technological change.

“Ireland’s success is built on ambitious people and businesses that are prepared to innovate and adapt,” he said. “The quality of this year’s entries reflects the strength of Irish business today.”

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony in Dublin on December 10.
