The Mayo electrical engineering contractor celebrated recognition for its investment in the next generation of skilled tradespeople

Claremorris based Mellett is celebrating a major national achievement after winning the Apprenticeship Programme of the Year award at the Engineering Excellence Awards 2026.

The award recognises the company’s commitment to developing emerging talent and supporting apprentices as they build careers in the electrical industry. It is a proud milestone for the family-run business and the people whose work has helped its apprenticeship programme grow.

Founded in 2008 by Brendan Mellett, the company has grown from its Mayo roots into an electrical engineering contractor delivering projects across Ireland and Europe. With its headquarters in Claremorris and operations extending to Sweden, Belgium and Finland, Mellett combines local employment and training opportunities with experience on major international projects.

The win comes at a time when attracting and developing skilled tradespeople remains a key priority for the construction and engineering sectors. Mellett’s success demonstrates the contribution that a business rooted in the west of Ireland can make to training, employment and the wider industry.

Above all, the award is a celebration of Mellett’s apprentices, their dedication, hard work and willingness to learn and of the colleagues who support them every day.

As the company marks this national recognition, its focus remains on helping the next generation build successful careers, with Claremorris continuing to sit at the heart of its growing European business.
