Mayo hit with Status Orange weather warning as Storm Beolo approaches

Met Éireann warns of damaging gusts, power outages and difficult travelling conditions from Saturday afternoon

A Status Orange wind warning has been issued by Met Éireann for Mayo as Storm Boelo is set to bring gale-force westerly winds and severe, potentially damaging gusts this weekend.

The warning will come into effect at 2pm on Saturday, October 24, and remain in place until 9am on Sunday, October 25.

Met Éireann has warned of possible damage to power lines, power outages, fallen trees, large coastal waves and the displacement of loose objects.

Disruption and delays to air, rail, bus and ferry services are also likely, while very difficult travelling conditions and dangerous conditions at sea are expected.

Coastal flooding is possible in certain areas, and damage may occur to structures that have already been weakened.

Mayo County Council has urged the public to exercise caution during the warning period and prepare for potential impacts.

A Status Yellow rain warning has also been issued for Mayo, along with Clare, Cork, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Leitrim, Limerick and Sligo. It will be place from 4am to 3pm on Saturday.

The rain warning highlights the risk of spells of heavy rain, difficult travelling conditions, localised flooding and disruption to outdoor events.

People are advised to monitor weather updates, secure loose items around their homes and take extra care when travelling, particularly in exposed areas and along the coast.
