Motorists are advised to expect delays as traffic controls come into operation on R319 route

Mayo County Council has announced that road works will take place on the R319 at Keem, Achill, over two days this week, resulting in traffic restrictions and temporary access limitations to one of the county’s most popular tourist destinations.

The works are scheduled to take place from Thursday, June 11, to Friday, June 12, 2026.

During the works, traffic controls will be in operation on the R319 and motorists are being advised to expect delays while travelling through the area.

The council has also confirmed that there will be no access to Keem Beach between 8am and 5pm on both days, with local access only permitted during the roadworks.

Road users and visitors planning to travel to the area are being encouraged to make alternative arrangements and allow extra travel time where necessary.

Mayo County Council said it regrets any inconvenience caused and thanked the public for their patience and cooperation while the essential maintenance works are carried out.
