Additional bathing water warnings issued across Mayo ahead of wet weekend

Mayo County Council places precautionary notices on beaches, lakes and swimming areas as heavy rainfall raises concerns over water quality testing results
Mayo County Council has issued a number of additional Prior Warning Notices for bathing waters across the county ahead of a weekend of forecast heavy rainfall.
The warnings have been introduced as a precautionary measure due to the potential impact of rainfall on bathing water quality. The council confirmed that the existing Prior Warning Notice for Shore Road Beach in Belmullet remains in place.
Bathing waters affected by the latest warnings include a number of popular swimming and recreational locations across Mayo.
In the Westport area, warnings have been issued for Bertra Beach, Old Head Beach, Carrowmore Beach, Clare Island Beach, Carrowniskey Beach, Tallaghbawn (White Strand), Silver Strand in Louisburgh and The Point in Westport.
In the Achill area, the warnings apply to Dugort Beach and Dooega Beach.
In the Belmullet area, both Shore Road Beach and Portacloy Beach are affected.
Further warnings have been issued for Lough Lannagh in Castlebar and for the Pontoon bathing areas in the Claremorris/Swinford district.
Mayo County Council is advising members of the public to take note of the warnings and to check for updates before planning swimming or recreational activities at any of the affected locations over the coming days.
The council said bathing waters at the affected locations will be sampled and tested, with further updates to be issued once results become available.
