Major residential plans lodged for east Mayo town
The proposed plans were received and validated on June 3, 2026.
A planning application has been lodged with Mayo County Council for a major new housing development in east Mayo.
Newpark Developments (Ballina) Ltd has submitted an application for the construction of 60 homes on the Dublin Road in Swinford.
The proposed development will consist of 34 three-bedroom semi-detached houses, six four-bedroom semi-detached houses, six three-bedroom terraced houses, six four-bedroom end-of-terrace houses, and eight four/five-bedroom detached houses.
In addition to the residential units, the development will include a new site entrance, internal road infrastructure, and connections to public utilities.
The site is zoned for ‘New Residential’ development under the Mayo County Development Plan 2022–2028. Twelve of the proposed homes will be designated for social housing under Section 96 of the Planning and Development Act 2000
The proposed development is located close to Swinford’s town centre, approximately thirty kilometres from Castlebar’s town centre, while Ireland West Airport is approximately nine kilometres away.
