Funding of €32,170.11 has been allocated to 13 women’s groups across county Mayo.

The funding was announced this week by the Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys.

The small grants come under the Local Enhancement Programme, and are being provided to assist groups in Mayo to purchase new equipment in order to enhance and improve their facilities.

The news was welcomed by Deputy Michael Ring TD and Minister of State, Alan Dillon.

Minister Dillon said he was ‘thrilled’ to announce the ‘fantastic’ news.

“These grants are a game-changer, empowering each group to enhance their facilities and equip themselves with the tools they need to thrive,” he said.

Deputy ring said women’s groups in the county are ‘thriving’ in our communities, ‘both urban and rural’.

He continued: "They have a become a welcoming hub within communities and an outlet for the women, both young and older, to socialise and upskill.”

“The community spirit displayed in these women’s groups and organisations is admirable. These groups also help to tackle social isolation and provide a space for people to come together and build friendships,” concluded Deputy Ring.
