HEARTWARMING A Man Called Ove’, starring Rolf Lassgård (pictured), Bahar Pars, Filip Berg and Ida Engvoll, will be screened this week.
The Westport Film Club is making a welcome comeback this week after a lengthy period of absence, during which the town’s many film buffs were left bereft. The long-standing and much-loved club is delighted to be up and running again, and screening its films in the newly opened W Cinema, beside Westport Leisure Park, just off James Street.
The club’s first showing will be held tomorrow night (Wednesday), December 6, when it screens ‘witty and heartwarming’ Swedish film ‘A Man Called Ove’.
To his neighbours, Ove is a cranky old man, but many stories are hidden inside his persona that reveal themselves during the course of the film. The action plays out around community and the individual, unfolding as flashbacks of Ove’s life.
‘A man called Ove’ has received much critical acclaim as a skillfully written, enjoyable, funny and thought-provoking story.
Westport Film Club is currently selecting its screenings for 2018, and it plans to show a film on the first Wednesday of every month. Annual memberships are not available at this stage, but the club aims to address this in the new year.
Tickets will be on sale on Wednesday, Dec 6, from 8.30pm. The screening will start at 9pm sharp. Entry €10. Patrons are reminded that The W Cinema has nibbles and a wine licence.
