Motorist died from heart attack

A DUBLIN man who died after his car hit a ditch near Louisburgh last Wednesday is believed to have suffered a heart attack while driving.
Bernard Fuller (57), a native of Dublin who has been living in Louisburgh for the last five years, suffered the heart attack while traveling in his car about one mile on the Westport side of Louisburgh in an area known as Moneen. The incident took place at approximately one o’clock on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 23, and no other car was involved.
It is understood that Mr Fuller suffered a heart attack while driving and pulled his car onto the side of the road. Despite assistance from a nurse who came on the scene, he died about 15 minutes after the accident and was removed to Mayo General Hospital for a post-mortem. The scene was investigated by Gardaí following the accident and the Louisburgh to Westport road was reduced to one lane while the investigation was taking place.
Mr Fuller moved to Louisburgh to retire about five years ago and, according to local people, kept to himself and was not known by many in the community. He had no family apart from brothers and sisters in Dublin. His funeral Mass is to take place today (Tuesday) in St Patrick’s Church, Louisburgh at 12 noon with his burial afterwards in Kilgeever cemetery.
