The  unique and spectacular scenery of Mayo will be shown on one of the biggest tourism websites in Australia to try and entice Aussie holidaymakers to take in what the west of Ireland has to offer.
The footage on the website which is expected to be viewed by over 300,000 potential holidaymakers in Australia features some of the most dramatic sights in Mayo as well as some well known tourist attractions. The online videos are being produced by Flight Centre - Australasia’s largest travel agency group which boasts more than 2,000 shops and businesses in eleven countries - and it is hoped the footage will convince Australian’s who may be traveling to Europe in 2010 to make Mayo and the west of Ireland one of their destinations along the way.
The footage was captured last week by Australian cameraman, Mark Broadbent who was invited to Mayo by Tourism Ireland in Sydney and his itinerary was designed by Fáilte Ireland. The video will include Enniscoe House in Crossmolina, the Enniscoe Looped Walk, Achill Island, as well as Westport and Matt Molloys pub (pictured).
Orla Saul, Tourism Ireland’s Manager in Australia, said: “We are delighted to work with Flight Centre on this project – it is an excellent opportunity to showcase Mayo, the west and the island of Ireland as a premier holiday destination to a huge potential audience. Australasia is a significant and developing market for tourism to the island of Ireland.  Last year, we welcomed 176,000 visitors from Australia and New Zealand.  Working with Flight Centre provides us with an excellent opportunity to develop even more business from Australia as well as from developing markets such as South Africa and Asia, to help the island of Ireland grow tourism business from those countries.”
