Funeral of Ballycastle man this weekend

THE REPATRIATION of the remains of the Ballycastle man killed in an assault in Australia ten days ago is expected later this week.
The body of former Mayo minor footballer, Colm Kenny, who died as a result of injuries sustained in an altercation in Byron Bay, is due to return to Ireland this Thursday. 
His remains will be removed from Dublin to the deceased’s home village of Ballycastle. Locals expect the funeral will take place at the weekend but no arrangements have been announced as yet.
Thirty-year-old Colm Kenny, a civil engineer, was only in the Byron Bay resort a number of days when, on May 11,  he became embroiled in the apparently unprovoked attack. A 20-year-old man, who turned himself in to police in New South Wales last week, has been remanded on bail to appear in court in July on a charge of murder.
Colm Kenny, son of Belderrig NS Principal Mary Kenny and retired garda John Kenny, was in Australia since last September with a number of life-long friends. The group were due to be joined by other visitors from Mayo who had flown as far as Heathrow Airport when the tragic news of Colm’s death reached them.
Prior to release, post-mortem and technical examinations were carried out on the body in addition to extensive forensic tests.
