The Outbreak Control Team dealing with the boil water notice recently imposed in Westport and including representatives of the Irish Water, Mayo County Council and the HSE, confirmed following a meeting last Friday that they will meet again today (Tuesday), May 26, to further review the water supply situation and the areas affected.
The boil water notice remains in place for the entire Westport Public Supply and associated listed Group Water Supply Schemes after Cryptosporidium was detected. In the interest of public health, Irish Water have reiterated that it is essential that all users continue to boil water that is used for drinking, food preparation, brushing of teeth, and the making of ice.
All customers in the following areas are urged to follow the advice on the notice which can be viewed on the Mayo County Council website: Westport Public Water Supply; Ballinlough pGWS; Cloghans pGWS; Brackloon/Bohea pGWS; Cushlough pGWS; Farnaught pGWS; Rosmoney West pGWS
A further update will be issued to local media outlets following next Tuesday’s meeting of the Outbreak Control Team. Many residents and businesses in the town are hopeful that their water supply can be switched to the Lough Mask source as that is Cryptosporidium free.
