Fianna FΡil’s Cllr Lisa Chambers (right)has been nominated by the Castlebar branch of the party to stand in the next general election.
The Castlebar Cumann of Fianna FΡil last week unanimously endorsed her at a meeting last week.
New Castlebar Cumann Chairman Martin McLoughlin said Cllr Chambers’ performance in the 2011 general election, when she was a very late entry as a running mate to Dara Calleary, and her election to Mayo County Council earlier this year put her in a good position.
“She has been successful in being elected to Mayo County Council on a strong wave of popular support, and we in Fianna Fail are confident that she is capable of winning back the Dail seat which the party always held in Castlebar,” he said.
Meanwhile tributes were paid to outgoing Chairman Conor Smyth at the annual general meeting of the Castlebar Cumann at the Welcome Inn Hotel. There were tributes also for long serving current secretary Pat King for all his work over several years.
