Mixed injury news for Mayo after club action

ON the weekend that Andy Moran took another big step on the road to full fitness, David Clarke and Keith Higgins both sat out the second round of the Mayo club football championship with hamstring injuries.
The duo, who were both replaced during the second half of Mayo’s Connacht SFC semi-final win over Roscommon, have been receiving treatment on the injuries since.
Alan Dillon was also a notable absentee from the Ballintubber line-up last Sunday; the two-time All Star unable to play after his exertions against Roscommon.
Cillian O’Connor was also among the spectators in Clogher and his shoulder injury continues to be assessed on a week-to-week basis.
Elsewhere, Chris Barrett didn’t line out for Belmullet in the Mayo Intermediate championship as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.
The versatile defender hasn’t played for club or county for more than two months.
Aghamore’s Cathal Freeman (collar-bone) and Davitts’ Michael Conroy (shoulder), who are both in the midst of their rehabilitation programmes, were also forced to watch from the sidelines last Sunday.
Interestingly, Conroy was named among the Davitts substitutes but didn’t feature against Crossmolina.
However, on a positive note, Ballintubber’s Jason Doherty, Burrishoole’s Danny Geraghty, and Brian Gallagher from Claremorris all returned to competitive action last weekend.
The trio have all been sidelined with ankle injuries in recent months but came through sixty minutes of football unscathed.
Elsewhere, Castlebar’s Barry Moran also got fifteen minutes of action under his belt on his return from an ankle injury.
The Mayo midfielder last played for his club on March 31 and hasn’t lined out for the county team for three months.
Fit-again Evan Regan also reminded all and sundry of his capabilities as the Mayo panellist hit 3-1 for Ballina Stephenites on his return to action.
However, it was the performance of Andy Moran on his first start for Ballaghaderreen for eleven months that will have caught most people’s attention last weekend.
The former All Star scored 1-2 from play against Garrymore.
Meanwhile, the third round of the Mayo Senior and Intermediate club football championships are scheduled to take place on the weekend of July 6/7, two weeks before the Connacht SFC Final.
