Boil notice to be lifted soon

THE boil water notice in place on three south Mayo water schemes will be lifted ‘as soon as possible’, according to a Mayo County Council Director of Services, writes Michael Duffy.
Mr Seamus Granahan said monitoring was ongoing at the Cong, Cross and Glencorrib supplies and no unfit sample had yet been found.
“We are at the mercy of the Health Service Executive as they are the ones who make the decision as to when the boil notice will be lifted but they have assured me it will be lifted as soon as possible.”
Cllr Damien Ryan raised the matter at the monthly meeting of Mayo County Council as he said many of the residents of south Mayo are suffering ‘huge hardship’ and they would also be ‘severely out of pocket’ if the boil notice remained throughout the summer months.
Mr Granahan assured Cllr Ryan that the Council were looking at solutions which would work in the area in the short term and that the water treatment project for the Cong area was now to be given priority by the Council.
