HERE today, gone overnight. Members of Claremorris Tidy Towns Committee who entered into the spirit of ‘Pink Day’ by erecting pink geraniums and other flowers in two half barrels at the Seamus O’Malley roundabout on the outskirts of the town were more than surprised when the flowers ‘vanished’ during the hours of darkness.
They were far from tickled pink when news came through on Sunday morning that their kind deed had been taken advantage of by some unscrupulous person(s) who stole the flowers from the barrels.
Tom Byrne, chairperson of Claremorris Tidy Towns, said they were surprised that anyone would remove the flowers from the roundabout. “The barrels were not vandalised at all so we presume someone just removed the flowers for their own use. There were there on Friday and Saturday but had disappeared on Sunday. We put them in place to enhance the roundabout and support Pink Day in Claremorris.
“We decided to erect the special sign to bring the matter to the attention of people in the area. A lot of people have expressed amazement that anyone should take the flowers that were put in place to support such a positive day in the life of the town.”
