‘LUCKY Run,’ a production with a huge number of Mayo connections, has advanced to the second last round of the online RTÉ Story Land competition.
The drama series is written and directed by Achill native Colm Cafferkey and produced by Capaillín BΡn, which was founded by Shrule man Eamon De Staic.
Also featured are Westport natives Donal Maher and Owen O’Malley.
Cafferkey told The Mayo News that the breakthrough of the Swinford based RTÉ production ‘Hardy Bucks’ in the Story Land competition in recent years has provided filmmakers and film enthusiasts with an added appreciation of the opportunity which the competition provides.
“In Mayo the Hardy Bucks brought it to life and now everybody kind of knows what it is. We’ve really got stuck in to it,” said Cafferkey.
‘Lucky Run’ tells the story of Robbie Dolan who is trying to piece his life back together after a severe night on the tiles.
“It’s a good story. Admittedly it’s a bit off the wall but it’s also fairly reflective. We thought if people logged on and saw it they would vote for it,” added Cafferkey.
In its three short months in the competition, ‘Lucky Run’ has gained more Facebook likes than any other show and is gaining notoriety as an edgy, well-crafted production with a good script and a strong cast.
Cafferkey, who is based in Galway, said there is a strong Mayo contingent involved in the production and this has helped to gather support for ‘Lucky Run’ in the west. The director says there is little time to enjoy their advancement as they are due to start filming the next six-minute episode in Tuam over the coming days.
The next episode will be online from Wednesday, April 27, and is dependent on public votes to get through to the final round. For more information find Lucky Run on Facebook or watch all episodes on www.rte.ie/storyland.
