The first baby born in Mayo in 2011 will be brought up a Galway girl according to her proud father, Seamus O’Donnell, whose wife Denise gave birth to their second child at 2.17am on New Year’s Day.
Weighing 7lbs, baby Ellie (pictured here with her mother and father yesterday evening) had not been expected to be born until today, January 4 but mum Denise (30), who originally hails from Enniscrone, was taken into Mayo General on New Year’s Eve.
Originally it was believed to have been a false alarm and she was kept in for observation but little Ellie was in a hurry and her unexpected arrival almost led to father, Seamus missing her birth.
“I went looking for a hotel to stay at around 12 and I was in Breaffy will I got a call to come in because her waters had broken.
The pregnancy was very fast but I got in there for the birth,” he said.
There were no problems with the birth and mother and baby who are due home tomorrow.
The couple live in Carrick East located between Clonbur and Cornamona with their eldest daughter, Moll,y aged 17 months, who was also born in Mayo General.
Seamus had no problems with his daughters been born in Mayo and was full of praise for the hospital and its staff.
“They will both grow up in Galway but the hospital and its staff are first class and I have no problem with them being born in Mayo.
The facilities in Castlebar are top class. Molly is excited about having her little sister home and is getting her head around saying ‘Ellie’, which is nice and handy for her.”
