Gardaí hunting armed gang after Ballinrobe raid
Edwin McGreal
Gardaí are hunting an armed gang after an early morning raid today (Wednesday) in Ballinrobe where a young couple and their 15 month old child were threatened at knife point in their home. At approximately 3am three youths armed with knives and travelling on foot broke into the house in Brewery Court in Ballinrobe. A young couple in their early twenties and their 15 month old child were in the house at the time as was another male adult in his mid twenties, a friend of the couple. The three youths were wearing hoodies and tried to hide their identities by pulling their hoods over their faces. They threatened the couple at knife point before trying to steal the family car but the car wouldn't start and was later found burnt out a short distance away. Gardai say the young couple, who are local to Ballinrobe, are traumatised but were not injured during the attack. The scene has been preserved for technical examination. Anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area is asked to contact Claremorris Garda station on 09493 72080. An incident room has been set up there and investigations are ongoing. No arrests have been made to date.
