Four people who were driving a stolen car were arrested in Kilkelly following a hit and run incident in Galway

FOUR people who were driving a stolen car and detected driving at 220k/h were arrested in Kilkelly on Saturday night following a hit and run incident in Galway. The four crashed into a car at Lynch Roundabout in Briarhill, Castlegar, County Galway and failed to stop at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle informed Gardai and followed the car as far as Tuam where Gardai attempted to stop the vehicle. The car failed to stop and Gardai began to follow. Claremorris Gardai were informed and attempted to stop the stolen car, again the car failed to stop. The Gardai detected the stolen vehicle travelling at 220k/h near Claremorris on the way to Kilkelly where the driver of the vehicle attempted to perform a handbreak turn and crashed. The four then tried to make their escape on foot. Gardai from Swinford, Charlestown, Tuam and Claremorris were called to the scene. Gardai began to search on foot and managed to find all four occupants of the vehicle. The four foreign nationals in their teens and early 20s were arrested and brought to Claremorris where they were charged and released. They are due to appear before Claremorris District Court on September 7.
