The Mayo minor football team has been named for Sunday’s provincial final.
No changes in Mayo’s Connacht Final team
Mike Finnerty
THE Mayo minor team to play Galway in next Sunday’s Connacht Final has been named and is unchanged from the side that beat Leitrim in the semi-final. Mayo captain Cillian O’Connor has recovered from a dead-leg injury that he suffered during a club U-21 match last Wednesday evening and is named at left-corner forward. Mayo manager Tony Duffy has selected Aghamore’s Niall Freeman (brother of Mayo senior Alan) at full-back with Conor Walsh from Balla named at centre-half back. Danny Kirby from Castlebar Mitchels partners Sean McGarry from Ballina at midfield with Ballycastle’s MicheΡl Forde at centre-forward. The Galway team has also been announced and, as expected, manager Gerry Fahy is without both of his first-choice midfielders, Thomas Flynn and Eanna Ó hEochaidh, due to injuries. Eoghan Commins and Michael O’Donnell have been selected at centre-field while Shane Maughan, son of former Mayo footballer, Jimmy, is picked at left-corner forward. The 17 years-old scored seven points against Sligo in the provincial semi-final and has also been in fine form for his club, St Michael’s, this season. His father, Jimmy, is a native of Ballinrobe and won an All-Ireland minor medal with Mayo in 1978.
