MANY heart-warming tributes have been paid to Nora Crishel from Mayo, who died recently after a long illness borne with characteristic bravery and fortitude. She was formerly Donovan from Annies, Hollymount.

Nora, from Lecarrow, Hollymount, who was in her 60s, was a devoted mother and grandmother and her warmth, kindness and gentle spirit touched all who knew her.

For many years, Nora ran a popular hairdressing salon in Hollymount. It was a wonderful meeting place for so many people who always looked forward to their visit to Nora and sharing in the delightful, humorous and engaging banter of the day.

From Mayo football to the Royal Family, news from the local farming scene to music and song and entertainment, it was all on the agenda with Nora and friends. She was a kind and caring person who was always there to lend a helping hand and encouraging word.

Nora and her husband Michael were people from a farming background and they had a great fondness for the land, livestock and the rural way of life. She loved gardening and flowers and was always at ease and at peace in the garden.

She was a great supporter of the Roundfort Agricultural Show in former years and enjoyed taking charge of the dog section at the show which always attracted a major entry.

Many will also remember Nora as a wonderful supporter of the Youth Darts scene in the area and around Mayo that she promoted so well over the years.

hen news broke of her initial health related issue, so many people were shocked and deeply saddened as they held Nora in such regard. The manner in which she faced that journey was inspirational in the extreme and the hearts of all went out to her husband Michael, son David and Sandra and the grandchildren on her passing

Among the many tributes to Nora was one from Mary Coleman, Carradoyne House, Crossboyne that read: “What can one say about Nora, only that she was a lovely, most kind, helpful lady, and moreover a fantastic hairstylist.

“Nora had a wealth of knowledge behind her. One could converse with her on any subject. Nora’s great love was her family. She will be hugely missed by all of her family and all of us who had the great privilege of knowing the beautiful Nora.”

Reposing was at St Joseph’s Funeral Home, Ballinrobe, with removal to her home. Fr Mike Murphy, PP, celebrated the funeral Mass in Roundfort Church and interment took place afterwards in the local cemetery.

Nora, who was predeceased by her father John, mother Josephine, her brothers Frank and Timothy and her nephew Jonathan, will be sadly missed by her husband Michael, son David, daughter-in-law Sandra, grandchildren Chloe, Keeva, Conor, her brothers Pat, Kevin, James, Declan and Brendan, sisters Mary, Martina and Deirdre, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
