€32,000 raised to help repatriate 39-year-old Shan Mathew following his sudden death

The family of a 39-year-old father from Castlebar is appealing for support to help bring his remains home to India for burial following his sudden death.

Shan Mathew died unexpectedly in his sleep while awaiting heart surgery for a condition related to diabetes. His death is believed to have been caused by a cardiac arrest.

Shan’s wife, Deepthi, and their children are hoping to bring him home to Kollam, Kerala, India, where his family and friends can gather to pay their final respects.

A fundraising campaign has been established by Jijo Mathew, a close friend and relative of Deepthi, to help cover the costs of funeral arrangements and repatriation.

“Shan’s passing has left his children, parents, family members, relatives, and friends heartbroken,” Jijo said.

More than €32,000 has been raised so far, with the fundraiser appealing to the Mayo community and beyond for further assistance during what has been described as an incredibly difficult time for the family.

Those who wish to support Shan’s family can donate to the GoFundMe and share the fundraiser.

The funds raised will be transferred to Deepthi George to assist with the funeral expenses and the cost of bringing Shan home to India.

The family has expressed its gratitude for the kindness, prayers and support received.
