Mayo FC fall to TU Dublin after 2-0 half-time lead

Mayo FC somehow found a way to lose this game, despite being 2-0 up at half time and comfortable.

Connor McCarthy headed home a Darragh Forde cross to put the home side in front after 27 minutes, and James McGrath sent the sweetest free kick you will ever see, to the net, to make it two, just before the half time whistle.
But questionable defending cost Mayo dearly in the second half.
Aaron Corish sent in a harmless looking cross two minutes after the restart, and striker Leo Crabb, who was a danger all day, finished well, when the ball should have been cleared. At 2-1 suddenly it was game on.
TU Dublin added two more to compound Mayo’s misery. Alex Fallon made it two-all after 72 minutes, and Adam Mullhall’s excellent finish won it, as the game went into stoppage time.
McCarthy, Forde, Ben Edeh and Aidan Coyle all had chances for Mayo and Crabb, Ben Sullivan Fallon and Matthew O’Brien might have scored for the visitors.
The Mayo players and management will be scratching the heads trying how to figure out how the three points went out the gate in this one, but the truncated season is for learning, and there were plenty of schoolings at Milebush on Saturday evening.
A full match report will be carried in Tuesday’s Mayo News.
