ROUNDUP: Penultimate Mayo soccer weekend sees plenty of drama

As the Mayo soccer season enters the final stretch, there was action in the Premier Division and League Two as all eyes turn to the final week of league action.

Premier Division

Castlebar Celtic B powered to a comprehensive victory away to Ballyheane B on Saturday evening. A hat trick from Declan Ruane set the tone for The Hoops as they led 5-1 at the break. Braces from teenagers Rhys Saville and Tiernan Brady rounded off a fine performance.

Ballyglass secured promotion to the Super League when they overcame Crossmolina in narrow fashion. Ryan McGurrin and Oisin Moran had Ballyglass in the lead, and Richie Shelley pulled one back for the hosts, but time ran out as the visitors secured the points to win promotion.

Iorras Aontaithe ran out comfortable winners over league champions, Westport United B, as Dara Padden scored a hat-trick in what turned out to be an impressive 3-0 win for the North Mayo side.

Straide & Foxford overcame Killala 3-1 when goals from Paul Moran (two) and Conor Devaney secured victory for the away side. Promotion-bound Claremorris went to bottom of the table Kilmore, and came away with the points after they ran out 4-0 winners with David McCracken securing a hat-trick while Oisin Brady sealed the deal.

League Two

Champions Achill Rovers had a 5-2 win on their travels to Conn Rangers C as they ran out convincing winners in the end.

Promotion threatening Ballinrobe Town B had a 4-0 win over Westport United C when John Heneghan and Liam O’Toole secured braces for the visitors.

Fahy Rovers B overcame Manulla B in narrow fashion. The visitors came away from Manulla with a 3-2 win as they look to finish the season strong.

Glenhest Rovers B enjoyed a 3-2 win over second-place Castlebar Town when the ‘Hest came from 2-0 down to run out victors after Ethan Reilly scored the winner late on.

Mayo FC

Mayo’s U-14 lost out to Finn Harps 7-3 on their travels in Donegal while the U-17 side lost out 5-1 to Longford Town in Umbro Park.
