National Community Games Pitch and Putt Finals to take place in Westport

The event takes place at Westport Golf Course tomorrow

Westport Pitch & Putt Club will host the National Finals of the Community Games, at Carrowholly, Westport, tomorrow Sunday, August 11. This is the third year in a row that the popular Westport course has been selected to stage the regional and All-Ireland finals.

The Mayo Regional Inaugural Final was held on Friday, June 21 and the three girls who won through to the All Ireland Final are Grace Donovan (Gold) Lauren Brady (Silver) and Daisy McQuillan (Bronze). The three boys who won through are Adam O’Connell (Gold) Jack Duffy (Silver) and Lynden Heaney (Bronze). Congratulations to all the regional winners and best of luck to all in the final.

Westport Golf Club’s nine-hole Pitch and Putt course has been growing in popularity since it was officially opened in June 2019 and was affiliated to Pitch and Putt Ireland (PPI) in February 2022. Pitch and Putt Ireland is the governing body for Pitch and Putt across the country.

Hugely popular

Pitch and Putt in Westport is hugely popular with over 1,000 people playing on the Westport course annually. The feedback has been very positive, people love the fact that families and friends can play together on this outdoor facility which can introduce an element of fun and competition. Players on the Pitch and Putt course can also avail of Westport Golf Club’s magnificent facilities including free safe car parking, use of the club restaurant, bar, locker rooms and the new recently refurbished pro shop. Equipment can be hired in the pro shop for €2. Membership of the golf club is not required for people to play on the Pitch and Putt course. The community games finals will run from 12.15pm with the boys competition and this will be followed at 2.15pm by the girls. The participants, boys and girls (all U-16), will travel to Westport from all parts of the country to take part. The Committees of Westport Golf Club wish all the participants the best of luck on Sunday, August 11.
