Mayo's Caelan Doris led Leinster to victory in this evening's Champions Cup semi-final in Croke Park when the men in blue defeated Northampton 20-17. The Lacken star captained his team impressively and played a key role throughout, but his last-minute intervention which turned over a Northampton attack was the most critical intervention of all.
Leinster seemed to be cruising into the final when leading 20-3 deep into the second half thanks to three tries from James Lowe, but two late converted Northampton tries left the home side hanging on in front of a capacity crowd in Croke Park.
Afterwards Doris spoke to RTE and said he was relieved with the victory and delighted to win a big game in the home of the GAA.
"We've had some tough days here as Mayo men, but it's great to get the win today and now we'll crack on," he explained.
Leinster will play Toulouse or Harlequins in the final in London in three weeks time.
