Liam McHale looked set to be the next Mayo ladies manager.
THE MAYO LGFA County Board are to meet this evening (Tuesday) after members of the Executive voted to reject a recommendation to appoint Liam McHale as the new Mayo senior ladies’ manager.
McHale had been recommended to be ratified for the position by an appointments committee which was chaired by Mayo LGFA chairman Des Phillips, and also included Mayo LGFA Children’s Officer Ita Brennan, along with two external members.
However, The Mayo News understands that their recommendation was subsequently rejected by senior officers of the Mayo LGFA Board, who voted on the issue by secret ballot.
McHale is understood to have now withdrawn his name from the process.
The only other candidate interviewed for the post was former Mayo minor manager Vinny Gavin, whose proposed backroom team included Westport ladies boss Neil Chambers and ex-Mayo and Charlestown footballer John Casey.
Interviews for the position took place last Wednesday evening.
Mayo LGFA are expected to make a statement on the Mayo senior management saga following this evening’s meeting, which will not be open to the media or members of the public.
Meanwhile, The Mayo News understands that Brian McLoughlin is to be ratified as manager of the Mayo Minor ladies football team at this evening’s meeting of the County Board, which will take place in the TF Royal Theatre & Hotel in Castlebar.
