A young dancer from Louisburgh, Co Mayo has achieved international success last weekend after placing fourth at the prestigious Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne 2026 in Chicago.
Adam McCluskey, representing the Cresham School of Irish Dancing, secured an outstanding fourth-place finish in the senior men’s competition, competing against some of the best Irish dancers in the world.
The world competition, held in Schaumburg, Chicago, is regarded as the highest level of achievement in Irish dancing, attracting elite performers from across Ireland and beyond.
Adam was one of four dancers from the Mayo-based school to qualify for the event, alongside Alannah Robinson, Chloè Albers and Theo Lam, all of whom travelled to the United States to represent their academy, Connacht and Ireland.
His result has been widely praised as a remarkable achievement, particularly given the step up to senior level competition.

“It takes so much effort and time to reach this level,” a spokesperson said, noting the vital support from parents, teachers and the wider community.
Special recognition was also given to Adam’s teacher and mentor Louise for her role in guiding him to international success.
The school also acknowledged the support of local businesses across Westport, Castlebar and Louisburgh, whose contributions helped fund the dancers’ journey to Chicago.
Adam’s achievement has been described locally as a proud moment for the community and a testament to the strength of Irish dancing talent in Mayo.
Celebrations are now underway following his success, with well-wishers praising his performance on one of the biggest stages in Irish dance.
