Glenhest won a five-goal battle with Ballyglass
MAYO SUPER LEAGUE
Ballyglass 2
(Glynn 44, Walsh 83)
Glenhest Rovers 3
(McNulty 3, P Mulchrone 65, Murphy 80)
GOALS from Eoin McNulty, Pat Mulchrone and Cillian Murphy saw Glenhest Rovers edge past Ballyglass on Sunday, in an entertaining league encounter.
In a physical affair, it was the visitors who started on the front foot, and they took lead in the third minute.
McNulty found himself in behind the Ballyglass defence after delightful build up play, and he exquisitely finished past Nathan McGurrin in home side’s goal to give Glenhest the lead.
To their credit, the hosts grew into the contest after this, with the explosive Jack Keane a constant threat down the left flank, and Stephen Burke dictating matters in the middle of the park.
The Red and White levelled matters on the stroke of half-time, when defender, Liam Glynn, finished well from close range.
The newly-promoted side were without the services of former Shamrock Rovers, Galway United and Finn Harps midfielder, Ryan Connolly, but despite his absence they acquitted themselves well in midfield on Sunday.
However, with 25 minutes remaining, the visitors retook the lead, after the ever-impressive Pat Mulchrone rifled an effort home, after good intricate play by the Glenhest midfield.
Ballyglass pushed for an equaliser in the remaining minutes, however the away outfit’s defence defended well and they got another goal with ten minutes remaining, when substitute, Murphy finished the ball calmly to the Ballyglass net.
Bryan Walsh responded for Ballyglass from the penalty spot in the 88th minute, before moments later he was giving his marching orders, after picking up a second yellow card.
Walsh’s goal turned out to be a consolation effort, as Glenhest held on for all three points.
Pat Mulchrone, Connor McCarthy and McNulty all impressed for Glenhest in attack, while McGurrin, Liam Hughes and Jack Keane showed well for the hosts.
