A pub once frequented by Oasis stars Noel and Liam Gallagher will host a concert for Mayo Day on Saturday, May 3.

The Mayo Day concert in the Farmers Arms in Burnage, Manchester, will feature Joe Keegan and his band, who will play in the Oasis Music lounge.

Concert attendees are encouraged to wear Green and Red to celebrate Mayo at the gig, which starts at 9 pm with doors opening at 8 pm.

The venue owners previously rolled out the red carpet for Mayo footballers Diarmuid O’Connor and Paddy Durcan when they visited the city for a Manchester United game.

Joe Keegan was part of the award-winning Mayo Manchester Tradfest and has supported country music star Nathan Carter at the popular Craic on the Creek Festival. He has also toured Europe with his band and will perform some Saw Doctors and Oasis hits on the night.

Tony Hennigan from the Mayo Manchester Tourism and Business group commented: “We are delighted to be hosting the concert in this venue. Manchester is home to one of the biggest Mayo diaspora communities in the UK, and the venue has already hosted a number of Mayo events.”

The Farmers Arms in Burnage was once the local of Liam and Noel Gallagher, who lived around the corner from the bar, whose owners also share Mayo roots. The Gallagher brothers, who are reuniting for an upcoming Oasis tour, have spoken fondly of their Mayo connections and have remained frequent visitors to their mother’s native Charlestown.

The Mayo Day concert in The Farmers Arms is held in association with Mayo County Council as part of their award-winning World Mayo Day Festival.

This year’s Mayo Day celebrations are being held across Mayo and at locations around the world, rather than in one specific location in Mayo.
