Mayo University Hospital urges public to consider other care pathways as over 30 patients on trolleys

MAYO University Hospital has urged the public to consider alternative care options as high attendances have forced the postponement of most elective procedures at the hospital.

This comes as 38 patients were left on hospital trolleys this morning - the highest figure for MUH so far this year and one of the highest figures in the country.

A hospital spokesperson said that critical cases would continue to be prioritised despite ‘significant delays’ in the emergency department.

Over 200 patients attended the emergency department over the weekend.

MUH are urging the public to consider alternative treatments such as GP, GP Out of Hours, the Roscommon Injury Unit and pharmacies when appropriate.

The out-of-hours GP (Westdoc) Roscommon Injury Unit and pharmacies are open this weekend for expert advice and treatment.
