Portwest raise over €8,000 for charity with annual Welly Throw competition

This marked the eleventh year of the fundraising competition

Under sunny skies, the annual Welly Throw competition, hosted by Portwest made its much anticipated return to the National Ploughing Championships in Rathenisk for an eleventh year.

Once again, the event drew participants of all ages and received widespread national media coverage throughout the week.

Over the course of the three-day Charity Welly Throw, more than 2,500 wellies were tossed, raising an impressive €8,281 for Save Our Sons & Daughters Ireland (SOSAD), €3,000 more than the previous year’s total in 2023.

Portwest’s National Sales Manager, Martin Foran, proudly presented the donation to Christy Bannon from SOSAD.

SOSAD works tirelessly to raise awareness and help prevent suicide in Ireland. They work in our communities to help those in need feel supported and know they are not alone on their journey.

SOSAD offers support and services for people who are struggling with suicidal ideation, self harming, depression, bereavement, stress and anxiety, or if you simply need to talk.

Martin Foran, National Sales manager, commented: ”We’re absolutely thrilled with the incredible turnout and generosity at this year’s Charity Welly Throw. It’s fantastic to see such great support for SOSAD, and we’re proud to have raised €8,281 for such an important cause.

“Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this year’s event our most successful yet. We’d also like to thank the NPA association for their generosity in accommodating the Charity Welly Throw competition for an eleventh year.” he continued.

Christy Bannon from SOSAD added: “We’re delighted with the success of this year’s Charity Welly Throw and incredibly grateful to Portwest, Dunlop, and everyone who participated. The funds raised will go a long way in supporting our mental health services, and it’s heartening to see so many people coming together to help make a real difference.”
